The Past. In 1937 A.D. Penner sold a few cars from his radio repair shop on Steinbach's Main Street. A year later, with entrepreneurial flair that was to become his hallmark, A.D. launched Penner's Garage, a Dodge dealership and Texaco service centre long remembered for having the first available public washrooms in town.
Tweny years later, A.D. relocated the dealership to the corner of Hwy 12 and Main Street, establishing the company as a commercial landmark in Steinbach's growing downtown business district.
The Heritage. Over the years A.D. Penner has stood for Steinbach. As Mayor, Councillor, business leader and public supporter -- A.D. has worked hard to build a strong, dynamic community. His legacy includes the local golf course, A.D. Penner Park and the phrase made famous throughout western Canada, "Steinbach... the Automobile City."

The Present. In 1977, after ten years as a Winnipeg car dealer, A.D.'s son Charles returned to Steinbach to carry on the family business. This confirmed Penner's as the longest continuous family-run car business in Manitoba. In 1981, the opportunity arose to switch from Dodge to General Motors products. Since then, Penner Chevrolet Oldsmobile has consistently been recognized as one of Manitoba's leading GM dealers.
The Waffle Shop. At the heart of Penner's is the Waffle Shop where generations of car buyers and town's folk have stopped for coffee, breakfast and lunch. Innovative when it first opened in 1957, the little restaurant upstairs combines delicious homemade meals (including Penner's famous waffles) with a friendly down home atmosphere. Always a hub of activity, the Waffle Shop continues to be a great place to greet old friends and meet new ones.
Big City Convenience - Small Town Values. With a staff of friendly sales folk, solid service by trained professionals, a fleet of courtesy cars and second-to-none selection of new and used cars and trucks, Penner Chevrolet Oldsmobile is one of Manitoba's leading auto shopping centres.
Because of it's unique rural setting, in close proximity to Winnipeg, Penner's is able to serve customers in both Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.
Blending Past and Present. At the heart of Penner's business philosophy is the blending of the best of the past with present-day convenience. We believe strongly in accomodating customers from near and far, offering fast and efficient service and utilizing leading edge technology in both service and sales.
This continuity between past and present is most evident in Penner's showroom where you will find the very first Dodge car sold by A.D. Penner in 1937 standing next to GM's newest line of vehicles. The old and new truly come together in this historic family-run business.
